Bringing the Eleusinian Sanctuary to Life

The archaeological site of Eleusis encompasses the ancient acropolis and the sanctuary of Demeter and Kore, which served as the focal point for the renowned Eleusinian Mysteries. "Bringing the Eleusinian Sanctuary to Life" is an innovative Augmented Reality application that enriches the physical site by seamlessly integrating virtual reality elements and digitally restoring some of the remains of the Eleusinian sanctuary. Via this application, the Greater and Lesser Propylaea, along with the West and East Triumphal Arch are revived in modern visitors' screens, in their original status and use.
Integrating synthetic information to augment the current state of the ruins becomes a captivating endeavor in reconstructing the probable appearance of the ancient monuments. As visitors stand before the remnants of these structures, surrounded by other monuments, vibrant landscape colors, and the striking contrast between the existing remains and the envisioned past, their visiting experience is enriched, enabling a deeper understanding of history. The application "Bringing the Eleusinian Sanctuary to Life" demonstrates how modern technologies offer a new array of tools for archaeology and the study of the past, effectively highlighting their potential in advancing our understanding of ancient sites.
