Delivery

Matej is a young writer facing a creative block and financial problems. One day, his friend Jure asks him to help him by delivering a mysterious package to the address Julijina ulica 25, by midnight. Although Jure does not reveal the contents of the package, he offers Matej a large sum of money for a favor.

Determined to help, Matej accepts the task and meets a cleaner along the way, with whom he has an interesting interaction. When he senses that someone is following him, he quickly hides the package in an unusual hiding place. Soon after, he is kidnapped by Anton, who interrogates him about the package. Matej manages to save himself and escape, with the goal of getting the package back.

Aware that he is running out of time, Matej continues his journey to the delivery address. When he arrives, he realizes he missed the deadline. Nevertheless, the elderly lady at the address accepts the package. When Matej says goodbye, the lady pulls out a gun and shoots him.

At that moment, Matej wakes up and realizes that he dreamed the whole thing. This dream brings him inspiration, and he begins to write his first bestseller. After a few months, Matej attends the presentation of his book in a full hall, where he notices in the audience the two people who kidnapped and shot him in his dream - in reality, they are his parents. Surprisingly, at the book signing, a person appears who shocks Matej.

Director Statement

The film thematizes the problem of confronting internal obstacles and mental events that arise due to a lack of support from parents and loved ones, which can cause significant difficulties in various areas of a person's life. Dreams and their interpretation play a crucial role in raising awareness of such issues, as according to Freud, dreams represent unconscious actions by which a person tries to resolve various types of conflicts or difficulties. The resolution occurs through a dramatic twist and the transformation of the character after realizing the entire situation from a different perspective through dreams, which upon returning to reality give the individual the strength to move forward in life.

A young writer faces writer's block while working on a new book. An unexpected visit from a friend and an offer to deliver a suspicious package to 25 Julia Street lead to a series of strange and risky adventures. As the protagonist attempts to deliver the package, he encounters surreal obstacles, including mysterious followers and conflicts with garbage collectors. Eventually, he delivers the package, but the delay costs him his life. He awakens at his desk, realizing it was a dream that ultimately inspires him to write his story. Months later, his successful book launch is attended by people from his dreams.

The characters accompanying him through the dreams are actually people present in his real life. The person to whom the main character delivers the package is his mother, and the man who kidnaps him is his father. The package he delivers represents his ambitions and inspiration, embodied in something very valuable that everyone around him wants to take away. He ultimately overcomes the fear that has been blocking him, emerging as a completely different person. The dreams helped him confront himself and his environment.

Julia's character is unique, as her function intertwines through wakefulness and dreams. During sleep, she accompanies him and is the only one who does not want to prevent him from achieving his goal, even helping him in critical moments. She constantly tries to tell him something, but she fails because the main character is in a hurry. Her transcendent nature is revealed at the end of the film when she appears in the hall at the promotion of the new book – finally speaking in real life. Her appearance disturbs the main character, and her introduction brings him to a state of disbelief and shock, as he connects her existence with his dream goal: Julia as a symbol of support, inspiration, and purpose, thus the target address for package delivery, indicates that he created obstacles not only in writing but also closed himself off to potential successes in other areas of life due to unresolved family issues.

Although it is initially unclear that dreams are occurring, they must be visually distinguished from what is happening in reality. The events bordering on the absurd suggest that something is different in that segment of the story, and it is essential to visualize this through all mise-en-scène elements, camera movements, style, and dynamic shot transitions, playing with various planes and angles, as well as sound, to create an atmosphere different from reality.

The story contains unexpected dramatic twists and carries two key narratives that emerge from each other - confronting oneself through dreams and success that comes after inspiration. In the end, the story connects and completes as a whole, underscored by the character's transformation and the presence of people from his life at a significant event. Balance is also achieved in the relationship with his mother and father, who proudly sit among the audience and support the young writer. Meeting his admirer at the end creates another twist that takes the protagonist out of his current situation and questions whether it is real or still a dream. The ending somewhat leaves room for interpretation, suggesting a potential new acquaintance and the realization of part of the main character's dreams in the film.
