Mosquito: A Fistful of Bitcoins (2015)
Mosquito: A Fistful of Bitcoins is the debut feature film of film-making duo Tom Block and Laura Revell, both 23 years of age. Self-funded with an estimated total budget of only £2000, this quirky comedy is an accomplished exercise in no-budget film-making resourcefulness, aimed at the Internet generation.
Tom Block and Laura Revell started developing and filming Mosquito in the summer of 2013 during a vacation on the Canary Island La Palma, where Tom was brought up. Mosquito was then completed on a part-time basis over the following two years in the UK, alongside studies and full-time work. The film was shot solely on one Canon 5Dmkii.
Logline:
A girl from the future is teleported into the year 2015. Will she be able to save the world from the emerging Internet dictatorship into which she was born?
Synopsis:
Young Mosquito goes about her daily life in the post-apocalyptic wastelands of 2084. All of a sudden she finds herself teleported into the year 2015, where the eccentric scientist Albert has just tested his new invention on her: the Timeotronic 5000. Things get off to a shaky start between the two until Albert introduces Mosquito to the Internet. It turns out that his favourite pastime is her worst enemy. Will Mosquito be able to prevent the emerging Internet dictatorship into which she was born?
