Mithun Debnath is an Indian actor, writer, and director. He graduated in Mass Media and Creative Writing from Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi (2005), and later completed his postgraduate studies in Acting from the prestigious Film & Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.
Mithun initially began his career under the screen name 'Dweep Mithun,' appearing in several notable projects such as From Sydney with Love (2012), Shono Ekti Premer Galpo Boli (2013), Nandigramer Chokher Pani (2014), and the Hindi short film Tenant (2014). However, he later changed his name to Mithun Debnath and went on to star in a wide range of successful films and series, including Sangabora (2016), Bose: Dead/Alive (2017), Nabab (2017), Bioscopewala (2017), Six (2018), Robibaar (2019), Iti: Memories (2022), Hatekhori (2024), and Devi – The Goddess (2024). He also appeared in the popular TV series Crime Patrol. Additionally, his performance in the Hindi short film Sadak-Chaap (2014), directed by Anvita Sudarshan, was showcased at the Cannes Short Film Corner in 2015.
Apart from his work in front of the camera, Mithun has been an active acting instructor. He has conducted workshops for projects such as Bose: Dead/Alive (ALT Balaji, starring Rajkummar Rao) and Holy Fank (Hoichoi). His expertise in acting education extends to his role as an acting teacher at DPPS (New Delhi) and the Tripura Film and Television Institute (TFTI 2025).
In addition to his off-camera work, Mithun is deeply involved in research and development for both fiction and non-fiction in the audio-visual medium. He has written and directed several short films, including Happy Quarantine (2020), Perfect Strangers (2020), and Besan Ke Laddu (2024). As a writer and creative director, he has recently finished shooting a feature-length film, Qissa E Dastan (TFTI Student, 2025), which is currently in post-production.
As an actor, his upcoming releases include Dhatura (Hindi feature film), Khakee: The Bengal Chapter (Netflix web series), Charak (Hindi feature film), and Never Mind (Bengali feature film).
Currently, he is planning for his next feature-length film.
