Melati
Melati follows the story of an old man, Pak Baba, who invites a young lady, Melati, into his house to stay over. Pak Baba is excited as he thinks that Melati who is good friends with his daughter, Izzati, has come all the way from Seremban. Having not seen Izzati in a long time, this might be the only chance for him to know more about his daughter. Melati, however, is very quiet and doesn't seem to want to entertain Pak Baba's questions about Izzati. She also doesn't seem too happy to be in Pak Baba's house as well. The story shows the struggle of an old man who is desperate to hear from his daughter and a young lady who is not able to give him what he wants.

Azim Rizal is an amateur filmmaker from Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. He is currently a Communication student majoring in 'Film and Broadcasting' at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang. After 6 years of amateur filmmaking, he has won awards such as 'Best Short Film' at Kaki Lima Short Film Competition 2016 organized by George Town World Heritage Incorporated. The 22 year old was recently selected to be a directing participant for the Finas 3rd Young Filmmakers Workshop 2017 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This short film was the end product from the FINAS 3rd Young Filmmakers Workshop 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A group of young filmmakers that were selected from all around Malaysia were put together to make this happen. We were given an original screenplay by Davy Chou who happened to be one of the mentors for this project. I was given the task to rewrite it in Malay language and change the narrative as I want it. I made the story more personal to me and focused on a family story. We took 3 days for pre-production, production and post-production. Time was really against us. Fortunately, we managed to finish it and have been getting good reviews from private screenings. I would like to thank FINAS Malaysia, Next New Wave, the mentors, and everyone else that were involved in the workshop. The mentors were Davy Chou, Anocha Suwichakornpong, Carlo Francisco Manatad and Sidi Salleh. We are also very grateful to receive help and advise from Tan Chui Mui who is the founder of Next New Wave. We wouldn't have this workshop and short film without her initiative for nurturing young fillmmakers. Last but not least, I would like to thank my crew and cast. I could not have asked for a better bunch of passionate people for this project.
