Peter Onuigbo is a first-time filmmaker and visual artist. He holds a BA in English from Lagos State University.
As an artist, Peter's work focuses on personifying abstract imagery. He is currently working on his second short inspired by his fear of the dark and empty spaces.
Meatman started out purely as an experiment on how best my friend and I could make an accident scene without a single money spent.
What eventually became the film was months of deliberate scripting, taking pictures of wrecked cars and drawing up a story that is believable and entertaining as well. We had looked at quite a number of good drama while my friend, Oyakhire Russel who is the writer and producer, was hard at work researching good screenplays.
We wanted a story that was unique even if we had to borrow elements from other films.
The experience I am most trying to communicate with Meatman is that of courage to do what is right, even in the face of annihilation.
I needed the audience to explore what it meant to have all the odds stacked against you and see that while taking the easy way out can be ever so tempting, it is the choice to go out with integrity and decency that is inherent in every human being.
