Amidst
Two garden workers gradually empty a small boat filled with rainwater, to eventually sail away. Meanwhile, passers-by in the background mark the passage of time. The work forms part of a series of short silent videos shot during a single day through an out-of-order camcorder.

“The ephemeral is also the common thread in the video Amidst. The watercourse in a public park is filmed using a video camera that suddenly stops working, creating a dreamlike landscape with hypersaturated colours. The unexpected reveals all of its potential: exclusive entry into another dimension, connecting us with the whole of existence in a form of contemporary mysticism.”
Marco Tomasini, art critic and curator, 2008

Matteo Rosa was born in Italy in 1978 and is currently based in Malmö, Sweden.
He holds a BA (Hons) from Edinburgh College of Art and an MFA from Malmö Art Academy.
At the core of Rosa’s practice is an interest in interconnectedness – the play between form and formlessness, transience and timelessness, imagination and awareness. Nature and its contemplation are a recurrent theme, pointing to the viewer's inner stillness. He employs various media, from drawing and painting to photography, video, text and installation.
His work has been shown at numerous international venues, including Skånes Konstförening, Malmö (SE), Krognoshuset, Lund (SE), Kramfors Konsthall, Kramfors (SE), Liljevalchs Konsthall, Stockholm (SE), Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen (DK), The Boiler Room Gallery, Oslo (NO), City Art Centre, Edinburgh (GB), E:vent Gallery, London (GB), Galleria Civica, Trento (IT), Museo Alto Garda, Riva del Garda (IT) and Viafarini, Milan (IT).
The artist is represented in various public collections, such as Malmö Art Museum (SE), Region Skåne (SE), Public Art Agency Sweden (SE) and KORO - Public Art Norway (NO), as well as in multiple private collections across Europe.
