Matthew Pineda, also known as Matt Cinematic, is a writer, filmmaker, and media artist born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from University of North Texas in 2020 with a B.A. in English with a concentration in creative writing, as well as a B.A. Media Arts with focus in screenwriting, video production, and film theory/criticism.
Following graduating from UNT, Matt worked independently on his creative writing and music for two years, releasing different projects under his alias, Matt Cinematic. He collaborated with a wide variety of artists across Texas such as Néte, Kendrick Hatake, SunRay, and others during the global COVID-19 pandemic. During the Summer of 2022, he started performing at open mics at Pink Zeppelin Books & Records (PZBR), a local vintage books and records store/music venue. The space that PZBR operated in was once another well-known local business called Imagine Books & Records, a third space for artists in the local community in San Antonio and beyond for a little over a decade.
Since Matt didn't have much camera experience from college, and always wanted to get more hands-on shooting video, he started a collaboration with owners of PZBR to start capturing video of local shows and events the store would put on since they opened. Matt started shooting video on his iPhone 12 Pro Max in Summer of 2022, which ultimately led him to capturing over a 100 live band performances, both local and touring - state and nation-wide.
Through his collaboration with PZBR and the local music and arts communities of San Antonio, Matt created a filmmaking/visual artists group called 4Sight Visual Productions (4SVP) with other creatives. The group made a handful of projects, which led up to them competing in the official 48 Hour Film Project for the city of San Antonio in July of 2023.
Matt will continue his education by pursuing a creative writing MFA at the University of Texas at El Paso in Fall 2024 to focus and further develop his craft. He will continue to work on independent video, film, writing, and design projects with 4SVP.
