Matthew 5
Mateo Cinco (Mathhew 5) is a socio-political drama film set in the small island of Guimaras, Philippines. It tackles the life of a mother of which her husband was killed by an unknown suspect. She works in a saltfarm, however because of the rainy season, she has to find means to support her daughter's education. Power outages are very common in the island despite the presence of the wind turbines. One evening, she left her daughter at home for work and an incident happened. How far can a mother go to fight for her daughter? How easy it is to get away from a crime that has become so rampant? How can justice be given when you are not able to gain it for yourself and family?

Power outages are one of the problems we encounter in the province of Guimaras despite the presence of wind turbines in the locality. That irony inspired me to have the series of events happen in that setting. This film is timely with the hardships that parents undergo with the K-12 program newly implemented in the country. Above all, this film was derived from the series of extrajudicial killings happening in the country with the goal to eradicate drugs in the community.
