Director Statement

Marian is based on a 2 sentence horror story that I read online that scared the living daylights out of me. I literally froze and couldn’t move the first time I read it. I don’t know why it scared me so much, maybe it was the uncertainty of the concept or because a similar experience happened to me when I was a kid.

I love horror and all it’s subgenres so I knew right off the bat I wanted his film to be atmospheric with a dark undertone, but also satisfy genre fans with a bit of gore.

I wanted to make a horror film that’s not just about a haunting. The haunting in this movie is in a sense much more psychological and a metaphor for abuse and childhood trauma. Horror isn’t just about ghosts and what lurks beyond. This movie represents horror in it’s more tangible human form.
