Director Biography - Ebele Okoye

Ebele Okoye a multidisciplinary and media artist has been working
As an independent animation director and producer since 2006.

A two-time winner of the Africa Movie Academy Awards in the category Animation, other awards for her films include the Zebra Poetry Film Festival, Robert Bosch Foundation Award for
Animation, DEFA- research prize and “Redefreiheit” of Amnesty International as well as numerous other festival prizes.

Her visual translations of poetry into animation involve works by
some German authors like Kurt Schwitters, Simone Kanter,
Ulrike Almut Sandig and Björn Kuhligk.

In 2010 and 2013, she founded the Animation Club Africa and the Shrinkfish Media Lab (smedLAB) initiative: Nigeria’s first animation course in Nigeria
Active as a painter, media and apparel designer, she runs the relatively new Apparel and Androqueer labels "Olomenka" and ® "Kalodei Berlin ®" respectively

In January 2019 she started animating in virtual reality.

Director Statement

I like to address social relevant issues from an angle which is not associated with the norm
This is one of the first clips in a 24 piece on-going series addressing issues of domestic violence: however, not from the mainstream angle but from a deeper angle which looks at who the other perpetrators are and the effect of these on all involved.
