magone - A STUDY ON “THE CROSSROADS OF FATE” BY TSUCHIDA YASUHIKO -

Yasuhiko Tsuchida, a Japanese Venetian glass artist living in Venice, Italy. From the materials for eight years that covered him, we will approach the secret of his character and creation.

The feeling of nostalgia and aching in the back of the chest that you feel when you stare at the setting sun is called "magone" and the story progresses.

It consists of seven chapters. It is spoken in a monologue by the director Atsushi Tanabe himself. The story begins with the introductory "FLOW", in which "I", who has completed all the interviews in Venice, recalls his encounter with Tsuchida Yasuhiko at St. Mark's Square on the eve of his return to Japan.

In the first chapter, "Walk" we will describe how Tsuchida lives and exists in a foreign land of Venice from the perspective of "walking."

In the second chapter, "TASTE" we will explore his involvement in light and shadow, food and art, while unraveling the autobiographical novel "Tsujicho Sushika" written by Tsuchida.

In Chapter 4, "SPIRAL" we will deepen our consideration of "Swirl," which is the motif of Tsuchida's creation, from the perspective of "death and rebirth," which was presented in Chapter 3.

Chapter 5, "FOG," considers the process of creating a work from the perspective of a kind of initiation to transcend the time limit of Tsuchida as a living thing.

In the final chapter, "SENUHIMA" we will give some conclusions about the true identity of "magone," and consider the role that art and culture play in the world through the lives of Tsuchida and the people around him.

Takashi Kokubo, a world-renowned ambient music composer, composed the original score of this film. He sampled and used the sound of Tsuchida's artwork.
