Lucie Sheppard is a Bristol & London based dance filmmaker and moving image artist.
Lucie has an intuitive, creative and professional approach to filming dance and has worked with professional dance organisations including, Sadler’s Wells, Siobhan Davies Dance, Independent Dance, Avatâra Ayuso, and MurleyDance. Her moving image work has been screened at the ICA, London, as part of the London Short Film Festival 2014, at New Art Exchange, Nottingham and as part of Dance Film Festival UK, London.
She received a degree in Dance from De Montfort University, Leicester, and completed an MA in Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University. Throughout her education and creative career Lucie has worked in both dance and visual art, exploring, discovering and capturing movement in different forms and mediums.
What I love about dance is that it’s an 'in the moment' art form, the energy and experience you get from watching live dance is something spectacular and very unique.
My aim as a filmmaker is to explore this relationship between the screen and live dance, and experiment with different ways of recording movement. Not only do I want to capture that wonderful essence of watching something live, but I also want to show the viewer something they can't get from watching a performance from the auditorium.
