Loredana Gasparotto was born in Bassano Del Grappa, Italy. The daughter of an aspiring nun and a frustrated inventor she began to perform at the age of seven in both in dance and theater to cope with her weird family life.
Later on, she became interested in painting and filmmaking.
The choreographies of Angelin Preljoaj, Pina Bausch, inspired her to find her own original voice and a way to convey her own ideas. To this end, she earned a degree in Performing Art in Milan a won a scholarship to study Musical Theater at the Bernstein Musical Theater School in Bologna.
Moved by Italian neo-realism, but never really drawn to Fellini or Visconti, she became enchanted with Pedro Almodovar and his strange melodramatic and implausible stories.
As a result, after she moved to New York, she resolved to study filmmaking and fine arts and began making videos, short films, and experiment with collages and painting.
Loredana has produced and directed two short films titled Tainted and Hamartia based on her original narrative scripts. Both films have been screened for The New Filmmakers’ series at the New York Film Anthology Archives and they have been accepted at the Bergenfield Film Festival in New Jersey. Tainted has received an Honorable Director’s citation at the Black Maria Film festival and the New Jersey Young Filmmakers.
Her first feature film titled PENTIMENTO portrays the surreal and nightmarish journey of a modern-day illegal immigrant in Brooklyn. The film combines some of Loredana's illicit immigration memories with her love of art and surrealism.
Loredana is currently writing two new feature films titled "Wild Swans” and “The Master and Elena”(Working titles). “Wild Swans” inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "Wild Swans" is a horror fairy tale about a group of deformed children and a schizophrenic, albino school teacher.
While “The Master and Elena” is a psychological, horror feature about love and the supernatural, based on the lives and works of Michael Bulgakov.
