Director Statement

From the time of conception it took almost three years to finish King of Nothing. It has only become more relevant as the opiate addiction epidemic has escalated in America. I wrote the film wanting to create a contemporary film noir, complete with a dreamlike pace, expressionist visuals and brooding themes. Although it was shot on a very limited budget I am very pleased with the result, a culmination of a small number of committed individuals. I tried to embrace my limitations, applying new wave sensibilities to the grittiness of low light digital footage.
