Little Piece of Sugar

Malo, diabetic for 10 years, refuses to let the disease dictate his life. He follows his passion for mountain biking, seeking a life like everyone else.
Malo is living his first season in the French Cup as part of a UCI team (Union Cycliste Internationale).
Little piece of sugar tells the story of this young man and his family, ten years after his diabetes diagnosis. Back then, everything seemed hopeless.
Faced with an unmanageable diabetes, they spent weeks in hospitals without answers. A decisive encounter and advances in technology brought hope back into their lives. Together, they navigated this storm to support Malo. Family, friends, coaches, and teammates, all played a crucial role in helping him thrive.
A hopeful film where sports break down prejudices and transcend the boxes imposed by society.

Director Biography - Clément Armand

Clément is a young director and filmmaker with a passion for vérité-style documentary. His driving force is capturing truth as he perceives and feels it through his lens.
Specializing in outdoor and motorsport industries, Clément focuses on mountain biking, rally raid, trail running, and skiing. Disillusioned by the lack of depth in social media content three years ago, Clément decided to follow his heart and dedicate himself to documentary filmmaking, focusing on storytelling and authenticity.

His first film, Écrins Sauvages (2023), followed steep-skiing athletes exploring their natural playground.
Over the past three years, Clément has also chronicled Benji Melot's journey at the Dakar Rally. Together, they launched a daily web series from scratch. It quickly turned into a success, gaining 10,000 subscribers in its first seven days and ranking among YouTube’s Top 13 trending videos the following year.

With his latest feature documentary, Little Piece of Sugar, Clément embraced long-format storytelling. Having known Malo since he was a baby, Clément brings a deeply personal perspective to the story of this young man and his unique journey with diabetes, creating a heartfelt and inspiring narrative.

Director Statement

I have known Malo since he was just four months old. Over the years, I have witnessed his journey with diabetes—both in his everyday life and on the bike. By 2022, my passion for documentary filmmaking had grown, and I knew I wanted to tell his story.

I am proud to have captured it on film. For me, this project is deeply meaningful: it’s about sharing his fight, inspiring others, and showing that it’s possible to thrive despite the challenges of living with a chronic illness.

I wanted this story to reflect who Malo truly is—authentic, sincere, intimate, and full of purpose.
