While being Film Production student at the University of the West Indies, Amir's student short documentary film “Who I Say I Am” was projected at the 2016 Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival where it won the “United Nations Award for Best Emerging Documentary Filmmaker” and also the award of “Best Trinidad & Tobago Short Documentary Film”.
Amir is a recent graduate of one of the most renowned schools in the Latin American film world, Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV) in San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, Cuba; having completed the Curso Regular programme of 3 years, where he specialized in Documentary Film Direction. He was chosen among 215 applicants from 24 countries to be a part of the 27th Generation of students of the Curso Regular at EICTV, and was 1 of 8 students to have received a scholarship provided by the Cuomo Foundation. In his time there he has created over 15 short films, some of which have competed both locally and internationally at film festivals; one of which was filmed at the Sierra Maestra - the largest mountain range in Cuba.
This 5-minute short was filmed as an excercise during the Hybrid Forms of Cinema film workshop given by Eloy Enciso at Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV).
