For several decades, the rose-ringed parakeet has settled in the Île-de-France region and has spread throughout France and Western Europe. However, since it is considered an invasive species, there are concerns about its impact on native bird populations such as starlings. But is this concern justified? Why have some species been labeled as harmful?

This film explores the positive and negative effects of the arrival of the rose-ringed parakeet on the ecosystem. By interviewing experts and showing footage of the parakeet in its new habitat, the documentary highlights the potential threats posed by this non-native species. Additionally, it also raises the philosophical question of whether it is legitimate to want to destroy certain species simply because they are native to other regions.

Director Biography - Maxime Landais

From a young age, I've been captivated by nature's beauty and its creatures. Wildlife documentaries left an indelible mark, immersing me in a world of magic. This led me to dedicate my life to capturing these wonders through film.

Discovering IFFCAM, a wildlife documentary school in my native Deux-Sèvres, was a dream come true. Joining in 2020 was a revelation. I learned audiovisual basics and honed my passions: cinematography and scriptwriting.

Prior to IFFCAM, I studied 'Management and Protection of Nature' and specialized in reptiles and amphibians. This led to my poignant film on snake phobia (Ophiophobia). Birds, with their intelligence and fascinating behavior, captured my heart. In 2022, I crafted 'les évadées', a poetic film on rose-ringed parakeets.

Capturing wildlife is my driving passion. An internship at Grenouilles Productions taught me to capture human essence. I filmed for 'The Guest' on TV5 Monde and produced reports for Nantes & Vous TV. Yet, my core passion lies in nature, fauna, and its wonders. From this captivating universe, I draw inspiration for films that convey the beauty and poetry of living beings around us.
