Director Statement

"The Awful Wars" is the second film project of Luca Immesi and Giulia Brazzale, produced by Esperimentocinema. “The Awful Wars” deals with the First and Second World Wars, the two greatest wars mankind has experienced and the title is taken from a phrase of Machiavelli that for "horrendous" meant great, extraordinary. The film is set in the forests of the province of Vicenza in Italy and the screenplay, written by Livio Pacella in collaboration with the two authors, Luca Immesi and Giulia Brazzale, is freely based from a theatre play written by Pino Costalunga.
The film has been produced with the contribution of Mibact (Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism) and it has received the recognition of national cultural interest. It’s also been produced with the contribution of the Veneto region by regional film fund and with associate producers and private sponsors, with the patronage of the municipality and the province of Vicenza, with the help of Vicenza film commission. During the last Venice Film Festival, the project, although never screened in public, has received the "Glass Lion", a newly independent established award that wants to enhance audiovisual professionals of Veneto. The movie, although unreleased to public so without loosing the premiere status, has been also in nomination for best film and best film in Italian language at MIFF awards. The worldwide premiere of the film will be at Shanghai International Film Festival in June 2017.
