Elijah grew up all over Kentucky, but has called Louisville his home since 2006. He graduated from the University of Louisville with degrees in communication and anthropology. He is the creator of the award-winning short documentary “New Kentucky Home” and is a regular contributor to Insider Louisville.
KY Place is a Broken Sidewalk original web series that encourages and facilitates conversations about relevant issues, without shying from taboos. It asks questions and seeks answers, while understanding that sometimes there are none.
Created on a zero-dollar budget, the series was produced by a staff of volunteers using borrowed equipment from the University of Louisville. KY Place can be considered a “pilot series” in that it serves as a proof of concept, but it’s also an ongoing project that hopes to continue exploring the often-unseen niche communities of Kentucky.
A place well known for bourbon, coal mining, fried chicken, horse racing, and hillbillies, the Bluegrass State has become a folksy centerpiece on the national stage that, unfortunately, is commonly misunderstood. This series aims to utilize social media and the “sharable” nature of online communication to shatter stereotypes and show that this state – like many places around the world – is complex, diverse, and beautiful.
Progress starts on the community level, and communities grow when neighbors talk to one another. KY Place is the story of those conversations.
