Peace Theme: The film must directly address or explore themes related to peace, reconciliation, harmony, or the resolution of conflicts. Emphasis on films that champion humanitarian values, empathy, and the shared human experience. Preference for films with a positive and uplifting message, promoting the idea that peace is achievable through collective efforts. High-quality filmmaking, including cinematography, direction, acting, and overall production values.

Censorship: The censorship standards in Malaysia are influenced by cultural, religious, and societal norms, and they aim to ensure that films align with these values.

The specific types of movies or scenes that may not be accepted by the Malaysian Censorship Board can include, but are not limited to:

Sexually Explicit Content: Scenes depicting explicit sexual acts or content considered obscene may face censorship.

Excessive Violence: Graphic and gratuitous violence that exceeds the acceptable standards may be subject to censorship.

Blasphemy or Religious Insensitivity: Content that is deemed disrespectful or offensive to religious beliefs may be censored.

Drug Abuse: Depictions that glamorize or promote drug abuse might be subject to censorship.

Political Sensitivity: Films that touch on politically sensitive topics or criticize the government may face scrutiny.

Homosexual Themes: Malaysia has been known to censor or restrict content featuring LGBTQ+ themes.

Rules & Terms

1. Eligibility Criteria:
Released open for all category

2. Submission Process:
- Submissions must be made by the film's production company, distributor, or an authorised representative. Filmmakers must provide a completed submission form containing accurate and detailed information about the film, its cast, crew, and the original source material.
- Submissions must include a digital copy of the film for screening purposes. The format and resolution requirements will be specified upon registration.

3. Original Source Material:
Films submitted in this category must be adaptations of published literary works. Filmmakers are required to provide evidence of the rights or permissions acquired to adapt the source material.

5. Format and Technical Requirements:
- Submissions must be made in digital format, following the technical specifications provided upon registration.
- Films must have English subtitles if the original language is not English.
- Films should not have been broadcasted or available on digital platforms in Malaysia & China.

6. Supporting Materials:
- Filmmakers must provide a synopsis of the film and a brief description of how the adaptation was executed. This can include insights into the creative decisions made to translate the source material into a cinematic experience.
- Must be in at least 1080p resolution.
- High-resolution promotional images, film stills, and posters should also be submitted along with the entry.

7. If your film is selected, you must comply with the festival’s rules and regulations.

8. Judging and Selection:
A panel of esteemed judges, including filmmakers, critics, and industry professionals, will review the submissions. The films will be evaluated based on their artistic merit, faithfulness to the source material, creative interpretation, and overall impact. Judging is fair and unbiased.

9. Awards:
The winning film will receive a prestigious award trophy and official recognition.

10. Award Winners
Announced during the ceremony.
Winners agree to promotional activities.
Awards are non-transferable.

11. Intellectual Property and Liability
- Entrants retain copyright to their films but grant KLIFA Awards limited rights for promotional & archival use, screening and digital distribution as specified.
- KLIFA Awards is not liable for damages or losses of submitted materials.
- Films not adhering to these terms may be disqualified.

12. Submission Deadline:
The deadline for submissions is 15 January 2024 - May 31, 2024.

13. Changes to Terms
KLIFA Awards may modify terms without notice.
