"Kill Your Gays"

In recent mainstream media, audiences have been outraged at the systematic killings of queer characters on-screen. These unnecessary killings occur so often that the trope has been coined, “bury your gays”. Tropes such as these appear to have disastrous effects in real life, and the LGBT community has been marginalized because of these portrayals. Kill Your Gays explores the proposed correlation between harmful queer tropes and deaths in media, with the high attempted suicide rate of queer youth.
