Kidi - A Spark

Every year, hundreds of women are admitted in Burns Ward of Victoria Hospital in Bangalore reportedly as victims of stove burst or kitchen accident. A lot of them succumb to these injuries while the others survive to live a life with never ending trauma. This documentary is a compilation of conversations with some of the survivors, revealing the homicidal nature of the incident and their struggle to navigate through lives in its aftermath.

Such stories, a plenty in India, are stories of their attempts to rise from the shroud of secrecy around the domestic abuse, speaking about the excruciating pain from the injuries, the impacted mobility, the disfigurement and their financial dependence on their husbands, any one or all of which pushes them into the margins of society.

In spite of such unfavorable conditions and rejections, these women convey a story of their resilience and strength to live a life with dignity and respect.
