The KDB + YOU Film Contest is intended to celebrate collaborative Denton community efforts that enhance our city to make it a cleaner, more vibrant, and beautiful place to live. Through this film contest, we want to showcase what KDB means to YOU.

Each year, Keep Denton Beautiful, Inc. (KDB) supports dozens of community improvement projects, programs, and events with the help of more than 6,000 volunteers and partnerships with local neighborhoods, businesses, community groups, and families.

Using the Keep America Beautiful model of community engagement, KDB works directly with Dentonites to inspire positive change and provides residents the resources they need to leave a lasting mark on the beauty, health, and quality of life in their city.

Awards will be given in the following age categories pending each category receives participation and eligible submissions: Elementary School (Grades K-5), Middle School (Grades 6-8), High School (Grades 9-12), and College/University.

FILM CONTENT REQUIREMENTS

Film submissions must support the mission and vision of Keep Denton Beautiful, Inc. and demonstrate the value that KDB provides to you and Denton using one or more of the following themes:

a) Urban Forestry: tree planting efforts and/or education highlighting the benefit of trees in Denton

b) Litter Prevention & Cleanups: impact of volunteer litter cleanups and/or importance of a litter-free Denton

c) Community Beautification: mural, landscaping, and/or neighborhood initiatives that make Denton beautiful

d) Community and Youth Outreach and Education: educational efforts to develop environmental stewardship and leadership in the Denton community through KDB volunteerism, membership, and support

Films should be comedic, light, engaging, fun, unique, clever, thought-provoking, and/or reflect the personality of the person or group submitting it.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

There is NO entry fee.

Films must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. on December 6, 2019.

Films must be at least 30 seconds and no more than 90 seconds in length including credits.

Films may be shot with any equipment including but not limited to cell phones, video cameras, microphones, etc.

Horizontal video format is strongly encouraged over vertical video format for public screening purposes.

Films and completed submission forms must be submitted electronically using FilmFreeway.com. If you are unable or unwilling to provide your film as a digital file for potential public screening, please DO NOT SUBMIT your film. Physical media, including DVD and Blu-ray, will not be accepted as submission copies.

Foreign language films must include English subtitles.

High definition videos are strongly encouraged (1280x720 or 1920x1080). Suggested frame rates are 24fps (23.98) or 30fps (29.97).

RULES & CONDITIONS

Films must be submitted by filmmakers who are 1. currently enrolled at a Denton ISD school (elementary, middle, or high school), 2. attending UNT, TWU, or NCTC, 3. attending homeschool in the Denton ISD area, or 4. a K-12 student residing in the city of Denton. December 2019 graduates in the categories listed above are eligible to compete. For questions about participation eligibility, contact specialprojects@kdb.org.

Films must be rated G.

Films may be created by an individual or a team.

Films must be submitted via the online submission platform, FilmFreeway.

Films must be the original work of the applicants. All music copyright, talent, and location releases must be secured by the filmmakers for each film. If a film is based upon another person’s life or upon a book or other underlying work, applicant(s) must secure any necessary rights to make such adaptations. However, it is not necessary to submit the copyrights, releases, or adaptation rights agreements to the KDB +YOU Film Contest. Neither the contest nor its jurists investigate or attest to the authenticity of an applicant’s statement of authorship or rights secured. By entering the contest, you represent that you have secured all necessary rights.

Applicants are solely responsible for obtaining all necessary rights and permissions for third-party materials included in their films, including but not limited to music, trademarks, logos, copyrights, and other intellectual property rights. KDB expressly disclaims all liability or responsibility for any violation of the foregoing.

Subsequent cuts or more complete versions of submitted films will not be accepted, therefore changing or updating the originally submitted film is not accepted.

You may submit multiple films but must fill out a separate entry form for each film submission.

Films selected for public screening will be notified on or around January 6, 2020.

All film submissions become and will remain the intellectual property of Keep Denton Beautiful, Inc. and may be reproduced for promotional efforts. The copyright in any submission shall remain the property of the entrant, but entry into the KDB + YOU Film Contest constitutes the entrant’s irrevocable and perpetual permission and consent, without further compensation, to use, reproduce, print, publish, adapt, enhance, or display such submission for any purpose, including but not limited to editorial, advertising, and publicity purposes. KDB shall have the right to edit, adapt, and modify the submission.

Keep Denton Beautiful, Inc. has no obligation to disclose any of the following information: i) identities of screeners or judges; ii) notes, feedback, or information relating to the submitted project; and/or iii) details regarding the submission review or selection process.

Failure to comply with content requirements, submission requirements, or film contest rules and conditions will result in disqualification.

Rights are reserved by Keep Denton Beautiful, Inc. to disqualify any contestant who submits a film that is deemed to be offensive, libelous, slanderous, inflammatory or otherwise inappropriate in any way for this film contest.

Keep Denton Beautiful, Inc. is not responsible for entries that are lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, or in violation of copyright laws.
