Josh graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London with a Distinction in an MA in Cinematography and started J Black Films in 2018. An award-winning writer, director, and DOP, Josh is an award-winning writer, director and DOP working in the film and commercial industry. He’s shot TV and online commercials around the globe for a variety of brands including Samsung, the Marriott hotel and Grey Goose and short films he’s worked on have been screened and won awards at festivals worldwide.He was nominated for the ‘British Society of Cinematographers: Emerging Cinematographer Award’ in 2018, coming runner-up.
Josh has directed three short films to date: the quirky comedies ‘Idle Interactions’ (2019) and ‘Picture the Scene’ (2021), and the queer coming-of-age drama ‘Theo’s Friend’ (2025). In 2021, he was commissioned to write and direct two web series and pen the feature film ‘The Path Between’ for Scala Productions and County Hall Arts (Living, 2022). Currently, Josh is in post-production on two upcoming projects set for release in 2025: ‘Cheers Camden’, the sequel to ‘Theo’s Friend’, and ‘Cheesestring’, a five-part queer comedy-drama series.
