At the Time

At the Time – lyrics & music by Jon Darren

They met inside the back of some bar / after hours when the the was dark
He told himself right from the start / have caution as he go
Because right then and there he knows / he’s gone, out his mind
Wishing now, he had listened… At the time

They went up to the hills by the lake / he carried her to a special place
Captivated by her body and face / how the shadows kissed her eyes
It was there he would decide / that he wanted her for life
Thinking now, he should’ve listened…. At the Time

Hear the sound of some Spanish horns / as she is leaving in the early morn’
She heard the waves crash the shore / the sunrise hit the coast
Came home and the door was closed / on he who had called her wife
Because he wasn’t listening…. At the Time

Opened his eyes / knew she was there
Didn’t see her but he smelled her hair
He pulled himself up out of the chair / put the coffee on
How the hell did you not know? / said his heart to his mind who replied
Obviously, you wasn’t listening…. At the Time

I hear that it’s extremely hard / to get back something that’s gone too far
Maybe if I had more hair and a better car / she’d still be here with me
And not that place off by the sea / where she won’t let me inside
To show her I can hear her and listen… This Time
