I started filming and having fun making short films in 1989. I found an interest in acting, production and making special effects makeup on horror shorts. I have always enjoyed the creative process with models and marionettes, I worked on sculpture and paintings to inform my ideas in film. In the late 90’s I took a break to focus on music but returned to film making in 2002. Whilst I continued to produce narrative based films I entered into combining my art and music training to explore more surreal and experimental film making. This part of my work became more important to me than telling a traditional form of storytelling.
This led to a fine art degree focusing on time based media. And in 2007 I was selected for Bloomberg New Contemporaries for three short films I filmed in my last year. After this I worked on longer films but eventually found a new love in music. I play congas, bongos, tabla, guitar, bass and drums. As well as directing, editing and animating I am able to produce from concept to finished piece. Sometimes working on projects for a year is something I enjoy and find the most fulfilling part of my work. I feel at my most comfortable in telling a story with lyrics and music. It was a natural progression to encapsulate all the elements I have worked on over the years into the music video genre. I have also produce music videos for the musician Roy Phillips and I find the collaborative process with him very rewarding. I try to highlight the not so familiar stories that inform parts of culture and the human condition.
