Jasmine Esquivel is a Mexican American filmmaker based in New York City whose work centers on amplifying women, queer, and Latino voices in film.
As a Mexican American filmmaker, my work is rooted in identity, resistance, and liberation. Growing up, the camera became my most trusted companion—a way to understand myself and the world around me. It taught me to observe, to feel deeply, and to document what others often overlook.
I create to amplify voices that have long been silenced or distorted, particularly those of women, queer, and Latino communities. Film, for me, is not just an art form; it is a means of reclamation, a way to challenge dominant narratives and rewrite our own with honesty and power.
Storytelling is my soul’s purpose. Through every frame, I seek to honor the beauty, struggle, and resilience of those who inspire me. My hope is that my work not only reflects lived experiences but also opens doors—for conversation, for healing, and for change.
