Joshwa Walton was born in Dayton, Ohio and raised in South Florida. In 2017, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida, having completed his studies in medicine, literature, and film. He is known for writing and directing A Strange Place (2018), available on Amazon Prime, influenced by 70's paranoid cinema and inspired by his time spent with Berkley's Richard Burt.
He is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts at Florida State University's College of Motion Picture Arts.
“The most intriguing experiences I have ever had in the theatre stem from a strong sense of unease and nervousness.
Paranoid cinema has a very unique approach to human weakness, focusing on subjects meant to deeply concern their audience over the course of the film, while also drawing their view to a potentially true-to-life institution regarded with a false sense of security.
In this film, a young woman wakes up in an abandoned room, cornered by a deranged captive who proceeds to orient her to their abductor’s rules: the lights will stay on, and the noises will stay hushed, if blood is drawn. It was our goal to establish a confrontation fraught with mystery and a text beyond the superficial, building on an admittedly abstract concept with relatable human tension.
'The Ivory Gate' is a dreadful, yet familiar fable, meant to explore the human condition, like all others, but, most importantly, intended to provoke its audience into asking: what kind of person do you need to be to make it in today's world?”
