Experiencing Interruptions?

Innocent

Everyday we pass homeless people crying out for our help and yet most of us do nothing. We tell ourselves they must somehow deserve their situation just to avoid feeling guilty for ignoring them.

But working with victims of homelessness I quickly learnt that most of them are innocent and here at the hands of abuse and violence they didn't deserve.

What's even more shocking is how many of them begin this degrading and hard life as a child. In the UK alone 150,000 children will sleep rough tonight and 85% of them are due to abuse and violence.

Too often these children grow up to become the homeless adults we ignore on the streets every day, branding them a 'Bum' and telling ourselves they somehow deserve it.

I made this film to remind people of the horrific causes of homelessness, to highlight the catalyst that drives human beings to live like this. It's not laziness, depression or addictions but the cruel situation they were born into.

These people are innocent and this film aims to remind people of that.

Director Statement

Hi, I'm Ben and along with my brother James we make films and music videos. I've been lucky to have a great background in TV advertising and have worked with London's best production companies but this is my first time writing and directing my own film. I worked with victims of homelessness and found a common story was how their abuse as a child lead them to this lifestyle. It's this that I want people to take away from the film, that not all homeless people are there by their own doing, they are in fact innocent and deserve our help.
