Show us your best in the world of Genre cinema.

New to the Toronto indie scene, HYBRID GENRE loves genre cinema and aims to recognize and celebrate filmmakers who have poured their heart, passion, and incredible skill into their projects. We are a festival that selects and screens a range of genres, from science fiction to animation, from horror to historical, and all the brilliance that lies in-between. Part of an alliance of indie festivals around the world, this is a great opportunity to get your work seen both in Canada and globally.

Official selections of our festival are screened each year at trendy event spaces in downtown Toronto. Filmmakers are encouraged to join us at these events for Q&As, an awards presentation, and an opportunity to mingle with an enthusiastic audience.

In addition to screening opportunities, films that are selected for HYBRID GENRE have the opportunity to win a variety of awards, accolades, distribution opportunities, and prizes (see below). Our awards are IMDb certified!

We welcome films from all over the world, and of all genres. We screen shorts, webseries, and features. We also have a SCREENPLAY COMPETITION, expertly curated by industry professionals.

Submit your film to HYBRID GENRE and join an amazing community of genre-bending filmmakers and film-lovers.

Films submitted to our festival are eligible for a variety of awards and prizes. Each award-winner receives a laurel, and those who attend our in-person screenings are presented with a certificate for their achievement. We also offer a variety of prizes - depending on the month - including local sponsorships for rental gear, products and subscriptions, as well as film distribution opportunities.

It was an honor that HybridGenre enjoyed my simple fairy tale Cascadia and even put it on their Red List. Although I was not able to attend the 2021 festival, I will enjoy the shindig in 2022. I know it will be great because the organizers were most gracious and Toronto is a happening town!

Thanks Johnatan for always being there to help, for your interest and kindness. Festival del tiempo is the festival that has treated me best: close and warm. In addition there are no festivals or there are few festivals whose main theme is time and history. Super interesting. Thank you for promoting my short film in Canada and Australia. What a pitty to live so far and not be able to attend the festival! Best wishes for Film festival of Time! Thanks Johnathan!

e are very proud to have been part of this special festival. Although we could not attend, we felt very well treated and the communication was incredible. Festivals like this help to make visible present problems and to fight for the preservation of cultures. This, today, is very necessary.
Thank you for the opportunity to project our documentary. We hope that this festival will continue for many years!
    Our best wishes!!
