Jason C. Treviño began making short films and music videos on his iPhone in 2012 on his iPhone, editing with iMovie. In 2015 he formed Hot Like The Desert Productions with producer/cinematograper Steve Circeo, after producing their first work together, a music video for WE’RE NOT FRIENDS ANYMORE by Channel One. He has since gone on to direct several music videos and short films with Hot Like the Desert such as the mumblecore inspired comedy THE RECORDS, the quasi-documentary/fantasy HUTCHINS, and the award-winning musical film IT’S LOVE (2016 San Antonio 48HFP - Audience Choice Award & Best Use of Line). Jason is currently directing VIETNAM GARDENS, a neo-noir love story set in the streets of San Antonio.
With HUTCHINS, I wanted to make a film in the spirit of John Cassavetes and the early 2000's mumblecore films that had a loose, improvisational feel, employed a bare bones cast and crew, and could be shot and edited quickly. What we ended up with was a semi-autobiographical film that blends elements of documentary, fantasy, and comedy.
