Alex is an award-winning documentary director whose work explores global themes in local stories. A native of East Germany with over 12 years of professional filmmaking experience, he launched Ost Haus, a production company dedicated to creating meaningful films that inspire viewers past listening into action. His passion for outdoors and adventure translates into his short-film work, capturing stories such as Zoe Romano’s self-supported run across the USA and, three years later, when she became the first person in history to run the world-famous, 2,000 miles long Tour de France on foot. Alex holds a BA in Film from Virginia Commonwealth University.
My goal for this project was not just to document an expedition following Tom Mullikin and his team across the trails of South Carolina as they reach and explore the State’s National Geographic recognized Seven Wonders. More importantly, I wanted to capture what these wonders have to say. Now more than ever, this voice needs to be heard, as sea levels rise, and South Carolina battles a changing landscape with increasing severe weather. Using visual and aural tools the viewer will be immersed into the changing landscape as if they are hiking alongside the explorers, “listening” to what the surroundings have to offer.
