Ryan C. Khan is an acclaimed filmmaker from the beautiful twin-island republic of Trinidad and Tobago. With over 20 years of experience in the film industry, Ryan is known for his passion, collaborative spirit, and resourcefulness as an artist. He has a keen eye for pioneering new initiatives and finding uncommon ways to produce projects within untapped cultures and communities.
Ryan's journey in the film industry began in the editorial department of a boutique video production house, and he has since made his mark in various forms of media, including television, teaching, and film festivals. He has developed a distinctive style that blends the supernatural with commercial elements, crafting high-quality and mesmerizing stories despite limited resources.
As one of the first funding recipients from his country's newly established film commission, FilmTT, Ryan successfully wrote, produced, and directed his first two short films, "MINUTES TO MIDNITE" and "THE MIDNITE AFFAIR," which saw limited theatrical/VOD release. His third short film, "HOW MANY TIMES?," was screened at the prestigious CANNES SHORT FILM CORNER in 2014, showcasing his talent on an international stage.
In addition to his work in short films, Ryan has made a name for himself in the music industry, producing, directing, and editing music videos for renowned regional artists such as KES THE BAND, ORANGE SKY, and BUNJI GARLIN. He has also worked with multinational advertising agencies, including MCCANN WORLD GROUP, SAATCHI & SAATCHI, and OGILVY, creating commercials that captivate audiences with creativity and impact.
As the founder of Ryan C Khan Films, Ryan continues to craft unique stories and work with notable brands, artists, and collaborators in the region, creating fresh and innovative content that pushes the boundaries of storytelling. His unwavering passion, collaborative approach, and commitment to excellence make him a sought-after filmmaker in the industry.
As a director, my vision for this film centers on the themes of trust, risk-taking, and the blurred lines between right and wrong on many layers - from the inappropriateness of the two characters dating because of the age difference to the idea of where the buck stops when it comes to moral and ethical responsibilities of money-making corporations and governments.
Through the use of visual storytelling and compelling dialogue, I aim to immerse the audience in the comfortable atmosphere of thought experiments, witty banter, and an intriguing plot.
Hey Nineteen is a story that explores the complexities of human relationships and the transformative power of unexpected encounters. I am excited to bring this story to life on screen and to engage audiences with a thought-provoking and emotionally rich cinematic experience.
