Los hechos son hechos (The facts are fabricated)

Shot in the Spanish island of Mallorca, «Los hechos son hechos (The facts are fabricated)» explores the representation of oppressive powers in the landscape and the silenced histories of those disappeared by political repression during Franco’s dictatorship in Spain.

A traveller presents the landscape as an entity capable of revealing invisible systems of power and its connection to the human body’s capacity to embody their ancestors' memories. With this departure, the film reflects upon the relation between memory and memorials, it silences and inabilities to overcome trauma; the embedded alienation of a unifying grand narrative, and the overcoming of absurdity by its acceptance.

Questioning the mechanisms of constructing (accepted) history and its universal and uniformed vision as an objective product of truth —based on the conquest of the narrative of memory by the management and distribution of ‘objective’ facts and documents— «Los hechos son hechos (The facts are fabricated)» introduces the disclosure of alternative histories within history while drawing a new narrative and imagery to the ones who still advocate to rescue the historical memory of Spain and the presence of the silenced voices of the disappeared.
