Director Statement

[ENG) For Haru no kure (End of spring) I was clearly inspired by the aesthetics of Akira Kurosawa's cinema, however, I sought to narrate a simple story that was easy for the viewer to understand; that is why the minimalism of Robert Bresson, as well as the cinema of Yasujiro Ozu, Tsai Ming-liang and the transcendental cinema of Apichatpong Weerasethakul were also a great influence for my story. In addition to this, the beautiful and simple haikus of Matsuo Bashó nourished the haikus and the poems I wrote for my short film. Beyond making a samurai story with swords, battles and blood, I wanted to talk about the human condition of a man facing death and what more beautiful and simple action could mean a huge dramatic conflict at the moment of our death than the of needing a simple glass of water?
