Director Statement

The short film was born from the search to cinematically represent the ranchero identity that exists in the Chilean countryside. From there, the investigation led us to Don Luis, who was an icon of ranchera music and who today is practically retired from the stage, living in Aculeo in front of the former lagoon. It was by approaching him that the gaze turned to his person and the place he inhabits.
We move from the ranchera as a broad cultural element to a more particular metaphor between the creative drought of Don Luis and the real drought that plagues the Aculeo lagoon. In this way, our intention was directed towards trying to represent that parallelism in order to demonstrate both the abandonment of the place, after having been exploited hydraulically, and the abandonment of a musician who, after having lived through fame and stardom, retires to be able to live quietly. in the countryside.
