I’m Changlong Gong from Shanghai China, a director trying to carve his name and “Gong-Style”, in an uncharted field in film history. In 2014, I finished my first short film, “Varied Scarf”, without knowing anything about how to shoot a film. It was publicly shown in a venue packed with 800 people, and when the film ended; the audience burst into applause. That was the very moment when I made the decision to become a filmmaker.
As for Gong-style, I love combining complex stories with formalism and experimental shots. In 2020, I wrote and directed my first feature film in Shanghai, “Guide for a Hidden Fate”. Throughout the film are plenty of crazy original techniques without limitations and inspirations from opera, video games, cartoons, mystery fictions, and other forms of art from different cultures. I do not want to be 99% Spielberg ,or any percent anyone else, I’m 100% Gong.
