Director Biography - Mike Clear

Mike Clear is Head of Branded Content, DigitasLBi UK.

His background is as a producer of TV commercials, and he has always been keen to try and make something himself.

Mike was at the London creative agency Mother when he got married to his wife Alanna. They took a year out from work, in that time they decided to make a documentary about the search for the secret of lasting love, by driving a motorbike and sidecar from Alaska to Argentina. They repeated the bike journey around the freezing cold British Isles in 2011 – resulting in a branded content project for Match.com. And the birth of their first son Charlie.

Their second son, Sam, arrived at about the same time as the film was finished - the conclusion of which was that making a documentary feature was significanty harder than creating human life.

Mike and Alanna are still married.

Despite everything that Mike put them through.

Director Statement

Hello.

I'm Mike.

I have never made a documentary before.

I've never driven a motorbike and sidecar the length of the Americas before.

I've never been married before.

As soon as I could do these things, I wanted to find out more about them - and what better way of testing my new marriage than forcing my new wife into a sidecar to drive 36000 km. And film the whole thing ourselves.

To be honest, interviewing 120 couples, driving the length of the planet and arguing with my wife on a daily basis is nothing in comparison to making a documentary. I have a new respect for all documentary filmmakers.

I have worked on this film every day for the last 5 years.

It really is a labour of love.

I would love you to see the result.

Enjoy.
