Director Biography - Gilbert Sibomana

My name is Gilbert Sibomana. I’m a Rwandan filmmaker. Since I left school in 2012, I joined a film school” Africa digital media academy”. I studied video production and cinematography. Since I left school, I have been making documentary films and fiction across Africa, mainly in East African countries, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, and Congo
.
Currently, I'm working on projects for people who live with disabilities in Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Mozambique.

On most of the projects, I work as a cinematographer, editor, and director. Apart from my own films, I have also been working on many local and international film projects.

Director Statement

From the day I started working with organizations that support people with disabilities in 2015, See you foundation, Light for the World, and USAID, I was moved by the way they struggle in life fighting to survive while keeping a good smile. Apart from the job I was hired to do, I decided to start making my own short films from their stories so that the world could see how hardworking and motivated they are despite their disabilities. My purpose is that their stories empower people across the world who still regard disability as an inability
