Director Biography - Kyle Stuck

Kyle Stuck loves filmmaking, but his ultimate passion is with writing, regardless of the medium. He was born and raised in Ecuador where he spent the first 16 years of his life. Recently, he graduated from John Brown University with a Bachelor of Science in Digital Cinema. For his senior thesis project, Kyle wrote, directed, and edited the short film "Give Me to the Waves," which he is currently submitting to film festivals. When not writing or creating, he enjoys reading, watching movies (of course), trekking off into the wilderness, or spending good ole fashioned time with the wonderful family and friends that he'd be lost without. In regards to inspiration and influences, Mike Mignola, Sam Raimi, Edgar Wright, David Fincher, and Danny Boyle are definitely names that come to mind.

Director Statement

My name is Kyle Stuck and I REALLY like filmmaking, specifically writing. I was born and raised in Ecuador where I spent the first 16 years of my life. When I eventually started attending college, I noticed a figurative vacuum when it came to talking or dealing with serious issues, whether it be death, pain, or the fact that life can be a struggle. It all seemed very taboo and my own experiences and my reaction against it all is how GIVE ME TO THE WAVES came to be. In my life I've struggled with depression, lost family to cancer (was under the impression I had it for a bit too), and have consistently encountered the effects of brokenness (abuse, suicide, divorce, etc...). While we have all dealt with our own tragedies, I mention all of the above in the hopes of expressing true sincerity for the project and my empathy for those of you who have truly struggled. GIVE ME TO THE WAVES is an extremely personal story and it's one I hope entertains YOU while simultaneously asking questions instead of shoving a message down your throat. When I'm not writing or creating, I enjoy reading, trekking off into the wilderness, or spending good ole fashioned time with the wonderful family and friends that I'd be lost without.
