Let me briefly introduce myself - this is GAV here, Travel Photographer/Filmmaker based in Hong Kong/Bali. https://typicasian.squarespace.com/work/travelphotography
At the age of 21, holding a nice degree in Exeter UK and in the corporate scene, I remembered what I typed on my desktop: “Hmm..do I really wanna spend the rest of my life working sitting in the office at the age of 21?”
With so many questions in my head, I decided to buy a one-way to Australia. Hands holding just a GoPro worked countless jobs to save up buy a camera to fulfil a storyteller dream of mine - soon I realized Everybody has a story to tell - and yours is just as important.
I have been documenting, creating beautiful imagery with an aspiration to bring home, showcasing to my local audience in Hong Kong the feeling the sensation being in the present location. I believe adventure spirit is inherent in each and everyone of us, therefore I aspire to break the Asian stereotype, inspire city people to get out there and explore.
Started with Working Holiday in Australia and a GoPro, Gavin's travel documentary "A 3-Year Journey" has won him Film Festival Awards, finalist with NatGeo HK Competition and his Travel Photography exhibited across galleries worldwide. Returning home, he then worked as a Senior Video Producer for Goldthread - a 400k Subscriber Youtube Channel showcasing Chinese Food & Culture under SCMP (a renowned News Company in Hong Kong), not long after he got the opportunity to direct Video Production for the Tourism Board showcasing the nature & landscape side of Hong Kong in 2023.
Having established himself a fulltime role as a Video Director, shooting big budget campaigns flying from LA to Paris, worked for Luxury Villas in Bali and quickly raised to a status everything once he has manifested - he couldn’t help but question,
“No that’s not it. That is not what makes him happy.”
Seeing the world doesn’t mean anything without genuine human connection, people to share all ranges of emotions with.
2024, the urge was screaming so strong that he finally took that step again - taking on a journey of Self-Discovery - outside of this box of being a Travel Photographer - Who am I really? To find the answer, I venture out to the Yoga Capital of the World (Rishikesh, India), became a certified Yoga Teacher out of a spontaneous encounter, hiked up to 15000ft to Annapurna Base Camp with zero prior trail experience.
Well, here I am still breathing, typing my pitch!
