How To Escape Paradise

Against all odds, my grandmother Argentina takes it on herself to pray for her whole family, just to secure a place in Paradise for us. But we left her religion years ago, with no intent on coming back. That doesn't stop her, though.

But what if I told her I never belonged in that paradise?

Director Biography - Gabriel Pinto Monteiro

Gabriel Pinto Monteiro was born into a Portuguese family living in the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. Even though he was always interested in music, literature and movies, it was only in his late teens that he became interested in becoming a director – a rare path for a citizen of the small country without film schools. He tried his luck in Belgium, where he entered the film school “Institution des arts de diffusion – IAD” in 2010. During the 1st year of his Master's degree, he wrote and directed together with his classmate Marie Le Floc'h their first film “Elena”, a short fiction film about a Polish family in Belgium, having to rely on their daughter to translate during a difficult doctor's appointment.
Gabriel graduated in 2015, his graduation film being a short documentary film about his relationship with his religious grand-mother, whose faith is both a proof of love and a big obstacle for her grandson.

2014: “Elena” (short fiction film)
2015: “Comment échapper au paradis” (short documentary film)
