Sami Issa Mustaklem has spent his career directing, writing and editing branded content and film with narrative focus and emotional resonance. Beginning with an incredibly emo short film undertaken while a high school student, Sami’s projects range from advertising, short film, documentary and music videos.
Sami’s advertising work includes campaigns for clients like Forevermark, Richemont, Baume et Mercier, and Stephen Webster. The Center of My Universe campaign for Forevermark, which Sami co-produced, directed and edited with his production company 3rd Strand, was shown in more than ten countries worldwide.
Kurt Vonnegut has been an important artist in my life since I first read Cat’s Cradle in my youth. Growing up in Indianapolis, he was not only was a local hero, but his ability to blend honesty and optimism with sardonic wit shaped my world view and helped me navigate life as a Palestinian growing up in Indianapolis. Now, with my first film, I consider myself outrageously lucky to be able to add something to his work with an adaptation of a story from early in his career.
We shot in June of 2019 and have worked very hard to get the film into the shape it is in now. To get it to you in time for consideration, however, we were unable to do final color correction. If granted entry, we will provide a finished picture in time for the festival.
Thank you for your consideration and I hope you enjoy the film as much as I enjoyed making it.
