'Footsteps' is a silent film depicting the delicacy of a woman's footsteps in the allegorical theme of a woman sweeping away dust in an abandoned church.
The film was shot in Cleveland, Ohio by my friend and fellow filmmaker Gabriel Xavier Bly-Wolf (Spring Fish, 2021). We met one afternoon in this old church building. For several months I had been cleaning this old sanctuary. Through the process I became fascinated by the layers of dust, thinking of these many layers as equivalent to lines of time within a tree's trunk. I also became pensive regarding my own role as a woman on this earth, my female ancestors throughout the ages and now me in modern time where I exist. This inspired me to call Gabe to capture the motion of my footsteps on the dusted surfaces, igniting the creation of this short film.
This film will first be screened in February 2024, in the very same old church building where it was filmed three years ago - screened on the same original Super 8mm celluloid projected on a small screen for a private audience. Afterwards, I am releasing this film to be screened digitally - with the possibility for further analog screenings by special request.
