Returning for its 3rd edition for 2020, the FOCUS Wales Film Festival will take place in Wrexham from May 6-7th, alongside the FOCUS music showcase and conference programme.

The festival will offer opportunities for filmmakers, both from Wales and internationally, to submit their work for screenings and awards in a high quality showcase environment.

The festival is proudly supported by 73 Degree Films.

Awards in each category:

• Best Welsh Film
• Best International Film

Special Awards for a single film:

• Best Original Score
• Celtic Film Award

• Films must have been made after 1st January 2020.
• Films must be under 15 minutes (including credits).

To be eligible for the Best Welsh Short Film Award, a key member of the creative team (writer, director or producer) must have either been born in Wales or be a current resident. Please let us know if this is the case when you submit.

Submissions not matching this criteria will automatically be considered for the Best International Short Film Award.

Similarly, to be eligible for the Celtic Film Award, a key member of the creative team (writer, director or producer) must have either been born in or be resident in one of the Celtic Nations: Brittany (Breizh), Cornwall (Kernow), Wales (Cymru), Scotland (Alba), Ireland (Éire) and the Isle of Man (Mannin or Ellan Vannin).

Our panel comprises industry judges who are not connected with the festival. Their decision is the final decision.

We are happy to accept films in any language, however if your film is not in the English language we require you to provide English subtitles.

If your film is selected for screening, we may also request English subtitles to assist those attending the festival who are deaf or hard of hearing.

By submitting you are allowing us to also screen your film at the festival and use any images/media connected with the film as part of our festival marketing.

If selected, your submission will automatically be considered to be part of other FOCUS Wales events throughout the year. We will be in touch regarding these additional screenings (which may take place physically or digitally) if we believe your film would benefit.

There will be no refunds if your submission is not eligible to be considered.

It was a true honour to be involved with this festival. Fantastic communication, very professional, and I was absolutely stoked to be given the accolade of Best International Short!

An interesting and enjoyable initiative. We are thankful for our film being selected for inclusion in a diverse programme held in a great venue, and for the efforts made to put the event together.
