Writer Statement

I grew up in a immigrant community. My day would start with the morning wait for the bus with grown-ups waiting for the mail person to see if their papers had come in yet. Afternoons doing chores for my family and our elders in the building. Evenings play cards and bingo with neighbors after homework.

My mom spoke and wrote the best English so we were the go to apartment when issues came up with anything to do with the government. The building was it's own working community and we all played our part. This is the place this story comes from for me.
