FilmPride is run on behalf of Brighton & Hove Pride by The Latest Music Bar.
Brighton & Hove Pride is one of the biggest Pride festivals in the world, and The Guardian describes it as “The country’s most popular LGBTQ+ event”.
In 2020, like many festivals, due to the Covid-19 crisis Brighton & Hove Pride had to cancel their real events and switch to delivering a virtual programme online.
We did the same and the FilmPride Online Film Festival ran from 17th to 31st August. We’re proud to have brought our audiences almost 60 fantastic LGBTQ+ short films, documentaries, animations and feature films, along with Q&As with some of the filmmakers.
In addition, we screened a selection of the films in a series of television shows from 3rd to 16th August, on Brighton and Hove's local TV channel, Latest TV Brighton, and on 13 local television channels throughout the UK. This was a highly successful addition to the festival and gave our selected filmmakers the opportunity to have their works seen by thousands more.
In 2021 things are still unknown but we hope we'll be able to go back to physical screenings and we'll also offer some of the selected films the chance to be included in our local TV shows again (but filmmakers can opt out of this) . We will, as always, be following government guidelines at all times. The FilmPride festival will go on!
FilmPride does not have premiere status requirements. International films in non-English language are very welcome but must contain English subtitles.
FilmPride reserves the right to determine the eligibility of any projects submitted. If accepted, you must be able to provide the festival with a downloadable high-resolution export of your film, as well as at least one high-quality still image for promotional purposes.
For purposes of submission, all films must be submitted as online screeners through FilmFreeway. Submitted films must be complete. Works-in-progress will not be accepted.
