El Festival Internacional de Documentales de Santiago, FIDOCS, es un espacio de encuentro, difusión y competencia del cine documental. En su edición 30 reafirma su objetivo de promover el diálogo, la reflexión y formación de audiencias en torno a un cine documental en constante transformación.
El Festival explora diversos caminos del cine documental y las derivas de la no ficción, presentando obras nacionales e internacionales de realizadores consagrados y emergentes, donde la pregunta por ‘lo real’ se aborda en múltiples dimensiones, tensionando géneros y fronteras disciplinarias.
A lo largo de su historia, FIDOCS se ha consolidado como uno de los festivales más destacados del género en América Latina, constituyéndose como un espacio privilegiado para el pensamiento crítico y el cine contemporáneo. Su rigurosa selección atrae a destacados exponentes de la industria audiovisual nacional e internacional, mientras que su sede, Santiago de Chile, se proyecta como una plataforma para cuestionar, interpretar y reescribir el presente.
Cada edición cuenta con tres competencias oficiales: COMPETENCIA INTERNACIONAL, COMPETENCIA NACIONAL, –ambas orientadas a largometrajes y mediometrajes– y COMPETENCIA NACIONAL DE CORTOS EMERGENTES –enfocada en cortometrajes realizados por estudiantes de cine del país–.
Asimismo, como parte de FIDOCS Industria, se realiza Docs in Progress FIDOCS + Conecta, una competencia latinoamericana de primer corte que reúne a destacados profesionales de la industria nacional e internacional y tutores especializados. Este espacio ofrece instancias de retroalimentación para apoyar la postproducción, difusión y comercialización de los proyectos. La sección se desarrolla en conjunto con el Encuentro Internacional de Industria Documental Conecta y se realiza en dos etapas, la primera durante FIDOCS y la segunda en el desarrollo de Conecta.
El Festival impulsa además un sólido programa de formación a través de Escuela FIDOCS, que convoca a estudiantes de cine y comunicaciones de todo Chile a un espacio intergeneracional e interdisciplinario con invitados nacionales e internacionales que incluye clases magistrales, talleres y mesas de diálogo.
A través de Funciones especiales, el festival presenta películas de destacados cineastas contemporáneos que tensionan los límites del cine de lo real. Esta sección reúne la función inaugural y la de clausura, junto a proyecciones especiales en sala y al aire libre. Por su parte, los Focos y Retrospectivas acercan a Chile una selección del trabajo de cineastas y artistas fundamentales, ofreciendo una inmersión en sus procesos creativos y en el conjunto de sus obras. En esta línea, FIDOCS Expandido incorpora intervenciones artísticas –instalaciones, exposiciones y/o performances– que desde diversos lenguajes, amplían las fronteras del cine documental.
Previo al evento, Camino a FIDOCS recorre algunas de las películas que han marcado su columna vertebral, rememorando hitos cinematográficos y poniéndolos en relación con las transformaciones políticas, sociales y culturales de Chile en los últimos treinta años. Luego de cada edición, Lo mejor de FIDOCS reúne una selección de títulos que circula durante el año por regiones y el extranjero, ampliando su alcance y asegurando la continuidad de estas obras en nuevos contextos y territorios.

FIDOCS, the Santiago International Documentary Film Festival, is a platform for gathering, showcasing, and competing in documentary cinema. In its 30th edition, the festival reaffirms its commitment to promoting dialogue, reflection, and audience development around an ever-evolving documentary cinema.
The Festival explores diverse approaches to documentary filmmaking and the shifting forms of non-fiction, presenting national and international works by both established and emerging filmmakers, where the question of “the real” is addressed across multiple dimensions, challenging genres and disciplinary boundaries.
Throughout its history, FIDOCS has established itself as one of the most prominent festivals of its kind in Latin America, becoming a key space for critical thinking and contemporary cinema. Its rigorous selection attracts leading figures from the national and international audiovisual industry, while its host city, Santiago, serves as a platform for questioning, interpreting, and rewriting the present.
Each edition features three official competitions: INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION, NATIONAL COMPETITION—both for feature-length and mid-length films—and NATIONAL COMPETITION FOR EMERGING SHORT FILMS—focused on short films made by film students from across the country.
Additionally, as part of FIDOCS Industria, Docs in Progress FIDOCS + Conecta takes place, a Latin American rough-cut competition that brings together leading national and international industry professionals and specialized tutors. This space provides feedback to support the post-production, distribution, and circulation of selected projects. The section is developed in collaboration with the Conecta International Documentary Industry Meeting and takes place in two stages: the first during FIDOCS and the second within the framework of Conecta.
The festival also promotes a strong training program through Escuela FIDOCS, which brings together film and communications students from across Chile in an intergenerational and interdisciplinary space with national and international guests, including masterclasses, workshops, and panel discussions.
Through the Special Screenings section, the festival presents films by outstanding contemporary filmmakers who push the boundaries of the cinema of the real. This section includes the opening and closing films, along with special screenings both in theaters and outdoors. Meanwhile, Spotlights and Retrospectives present a selection of works by key filmmakers and artists, offering an immersion in their creative processes and bodies of work. In this same spirit, FIDOCS Expandido features artistic interventions —installations, exhibitions, and/or performances— that, through a variety of artistic forms, expand the boundaries of documentary cinema.
Prior to the event, Camino a FIDOCS revisits films that have shaped its identity, connecting key cinematic milestones with the political, social, and cultural transformations in Chile over the past thirty years. Following each edition, Lo Mejor de FIDOCS presents a selection of titles that tour throughout the year across regions and internationally, expanding their reach and ensuring their continued circulation in new contexts and territories.

Premio a la Mejor Película Internacional, consistente en USD 2.000.
De manera excepcional, podrá otorgar una Mención Honrosa destinada a destacar logros específicos de una obra (montaje, fotografía, dirección, entre otros). El jurado no estará obligado a otorgar esta distinción.
PREMIO COMPETENCIA NACIONAL
El jurado otorgará:
Premio a la Mejor Película Nacional, consistente en USD 2.000.
De manera excepcional, podrá otorgar una Mención Honrosa destinada a destacar logros específicos de una obra (montaje, cámara, dirección, entre otros). El jurado no estará obligado a otorgar esta distinción.
PREMIO COMPETENCIA NACIONAL DE CORTOS EMERGENTES
El jurado otorgará:
Premio al Mejor Cortometraje Nacional Emergente, consistente en USD 500.
Adicionalmente FIDOCS contempla un premio transversal:
PREMIO DEL JURADO JÓVEN MEJOR ÓPERA PRIMA
El jurado otorgará:
Premio a la Mejor Ópera prima, de carácter honorífico, otorgado por un jurado compuesto por estudiantes de cine de diversas instituciones académicas, quienes distinguirán una película entre las competencias oficiales nacional e internacional.
Este jurado podrá, de manera excepcional, otorgar una Mención Honrosa, sin estar obligado a hacerlo.
Ningún premio podrá ser declarado desierto.
Las películas ganadoras serán anunciadas en la ceremonia de premiación del evento.
Los productores de las obras premiadas se comprometen a mencionar esta distinción en todo su material de prensa y difusión, incorporando el logotipo oficial del Festival. Esta obligación se extiende tanto a estrenos comerciales en salas como a la distribución de la obra en cualquier formato.
El Festival se reserva la posibilidad de modificar los premios vigentes y de crear nuevos en cada convocatoria.

NATIONAL EMERGING SHORT FILM COMPETITION AWARD
The jury will award:
Best Emerging National Short Film Award, consisting of USD 500.
Additionally, FIDOCS includes a cross-category award:
YOUNG JURY AWARD FOR BEST OPERA PRIMA
The jury will award:
Best Opera Prima Award, an honorary award granted by a jury composed of film students from various academic institutions, who will select one film from among the official national and international competitions.
This jury may, on an exceptional basis, award an Honorable Mention, though it is not obligated to do so.
No award may be declared void.
The winning films will be announced at the festival’s awards ceremony. The producers of the winning films agree to mention this distinction in all their press and promotional materials, incorporating the festival’s official logo. This obligation applies to both theatrical releases and the distribution of the film in any format.
The festival reserves the right to modify existing awards and to create new ones for each edition.
