Film Girlz Film Fest is an annual short film festival presented at the end of the year by Film Girlz Brunch (Los Angeles).
Film Girlz Brunch hosts free monthly meet-ups, workshops, panels and wellness events for women and non-binary filmmakers in both Los Angeles and Chicago. Film Girlz is a volunteer organization and was founded in 2022 by Imani Davis, Kaiulani Bush and Mailyne K. Briggs. In 2023, the first film festival was held and welcomed a sold out event.
Films selected are those produced and/or directed by members of Film Girlz, with priority given to films that have not been screened before to support emerging filmmakers. Screenings occur at Los Feliz Theater 3 and is sponsored by the American Cinematheque, as part of their 'Here's to Her' series.
Following the screenings, an after party is held near the venue to honor the filmmakers. All filmmakers and their guests are welcome to attend both the festival and the party.
Why are there fees?
In an effort to continue serving the community, we are asking a small submission fee. The fees support the year long free/by donation events and workshops for women and non-binary filmmakers, which includes but not limited to: admin fees, website fees, facilitator fees, venue fees, event refreshments and more.
Film Girlz Brunch acknowledges the original caretakers of this (stolen) land we operate on: the Tongva, Chumash and Kizh Nations, and whose lands we continue to benefit from as settlers.
NEW $1500 SHORT FILM FUND open to Film Girlz Brunch members who need support with their narrative work: web series, pilots, short films and proof of concepts. Please ensure you have up to 20 pages of your script ready before applying.
